Artist Statement
I take my inspiration from the play in nature of light, texture and movement. Forms bend and twist organically as in nature. The objects are not necessarily descriptive picture of nature, but through the elastic, tactile abstraction it represents.
The captured movement symbolises an energy which happens when working with molten glass. I want my objects to communicate with my audience.
‘Making glass is a way of accessing a world increasingly excluded from our everyday life.’
About Elin
Elin Isaksson is originally from Sweden.
During her studies at Orrefors Glass School, Sweden 1998-2000, Elin discovered her passion for blown glass making. During those years she also undertook several placements in hot glass studios in Sweden and France.
Elin came to Edinburgh College of Art in 2001 following a year spent assisting 3 glass blowers in Gothenburg.
She completed both her BA (Hons) and her Masters in Glass & Architectural Glass Design at ECA. During this time she has worked with Lindean Mills Glass, Galashiels. Elin was also Artist in Residence at Edinburgh College of Art, teaching undergraduates on a part time basis between 2006-2008.
Further courses include Fusing & Casting under Rudi Gritch in Itlay and Master Glassblowing courses under Simon Moore and Dante Marioni at Northlands Creative Glass Center.
Elin set up her hot glass blowing studio in may 2010 in Alloa, here hot glass professionals can rent daily blowing time or Elin can produce protoypes/project pieces for scottish design students.
Elin will also hold beginners/intermediate glass blowing courses one a month.See website-news section for course dates and prices.
